Biography
Remy Shand stepped onto the neo-soul scene in 2002 via The Way I Feel, a powerful collection of tracks shaped by vintage Motown and Memphis soul traditions. Raised chiefly through home schooling in his hometown of Vancouver, he started sifting through his parents’ record shelves while still young, absorbing jazz, soul, and R&B in equal measure, an exposure deepened when Marvin Gaye’s Here, My Dear left a lasting mark on his artistic path. After leaving high school early to devote himself entirely to music studies and performance, he worked as a session player and joined several experimental ensembles before committing to a solo trajectory. The material that would form The Way I Feel began taking shape in 1998. Two years afterward he secured a deal with Motown Records, and the finished album appeared at the start of 2002. It earned both critical praise and underground acclaim while collecting four Grammy nominations, one of which recognized best R&B album.
