Biography
California singer/songwriter Roy Blair crafts atmospheric, genre-blending soundscapes that resist easy classification within R&B, pop, rap, or any single lane. His entry into music came through an affiliation with Brockhampton, where he first sang backup alongside Kevin Abstract before contributing to the rapper’s second album. Blair released his own debut Cat Heaven in 2017, and followed it years later with the 2024 full-length Chasing Moving Trains.
Based in Los Angeles, the artist penned his earliest song during fifth grade after discovering a laptop loaded with Garageband at an after-school program. Throughout the 2010s he toured as Kevin Abstract’s backup vocalist in support of American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story, also lending his voice to several cuts on the project such as “Echo” and “Runner.” Blair’s first standalone single, “HELP,” surfaced in 2015, with “Thunder,” “Perfume,” and “Jane” arriving the next year; all three tracks appeared on Cat Heaven. That coming-of-age record merged lo-fi dream pop with hip-hop rhythms and was produced by Lontalius alongside Brockhampton’s Joba, Bearface, and Romil. In 2019 Blair issued the three-song EP Graffiti, highlighted by the single “I Don’t Know About Him.” He later moved to New York City. His second album, Chasing Moving Trains, emerged in 2024 and expanded the oblique stylistic choices of his earlier material by folding in abstract pop, R&B, and rap elements that merge seamlessly.
