Formed in Sweden, Salt operates as a three-piece whose members include vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Nina Ramsby along with bassist Daniel Ewerman and drummer Jim Tegman. Its origins lie in a loose circle of art-school friends who gathered for casual jams and occasionally swelled to six participants. The present configuration has remained intact since 1992. Although Ramsby studied piano, clarinet, and saxophone, she set orchestral music aside in favor of guitar. She chooses to write her lyrics in English rather than Swedish, finding the former more melodic and better suited to oblique, poetic phrasing. The group issued its debut album, Auscultate, in 1995. Delay Me Down and Make Me Wah-Wah appeared in 1997.
