Samba Peuzzi rose to prominence among Senegal’s leading rappers in the closing years of the 2010s and the opening years of the following decade, buoyed by his resolute delivery, melodic instincts, and polished sense of style. Working primarily in Wolof while also employing French and English, he channels romantic longing through sleek, chorus-driven tracks, among them the 2019 success “Marie & Cheikh.”

Born Samba Tine in Dakar in 1996, he spent his formative years in the surrounding suburbs, sharpening his abilities as a freestyle rapper. Adopting the name Samba Peuzzi, he signed with Reptyle Music in 2013, initiated his recording career in 2016, and reached the final round of the country’s premier rap contest, Flow Up. He contributed to the label’s 2017 anthology 221 and made further appearances alongside fellow Reptyle artists including BM Jaay and Dip Doundou Guiss. Maintaining a steady stream of releases, he attracted millions of streams with the 2019 single “Marie & Cheikh,” which preceded additional cuts such as “Ndongo” and “La Famille” and culminated in his first album-length project, Senegal Boy.
