Sanna Nielsen first appeared on the Swedish charts at the age of 11, achieving her debut success with the track "Till En Fågel." Her powerful and clear vocal abilities have marked her career, though she gained the most recognition through multiple participations in Melodifestivalen, Sweden's top-rated television program that pits experienced artists against newcomers in a bid to secure the nation's Eurovision Song Contest entry. Despite never claiming victory in this contest, she advanced to the finals four times: placing third in 2001 via "Igår, Idag," fifth in 2003 with "Hela Världen För Mig," eighth in 2005 performing "Du Och Jag Mott Världen," and sixth in 2007 with "Vågar Du, Vågar Jag." As a sought-after live performer, Nielsen joined Shirley Clamp and Sonja Aldén to co-headline a comprehensive tour across the country in 2007. That same period saw the issuance of her compilation album 11-22, which surveyed her first eleven years in music and incorporated Swedish adaptations of the contemporary classics "Time to Say Goodbye" and "You Raise Me Up."
