Born in St. Albans, United Kingdom, on December 20, 1977, Swedish singer-songwriter Sonja Aldén received her initial instruction in music at Södra Latin School under Adolf Fredrik, covering fundamentals in theory, harmony, and composition. Her path to prominence in Sweden began with an appearance at the 2006 Melodifestivalen, the contest determining the country's Eurovision representative. Alongside performing her own composition "Etymon," she contributed tracks for fellow contestants, which helped establish her as a capable and adaptable tunesmith. Though unsuccessful in claiming victory that year, she competed again in 2007, reaching the "andra chansen" semifinal with "För Att Du Finns" before finishing fourth overall when the event concluded in February. Her first album, Till Dig, arrived on the M&L label just two months afterward and registered on Billboard's European Top 100, signaling strong potential for the emerging artist.
