Sanne Salomonsen

Sanne Salomonsen stands out as a Danish pop vocalist whose extensive body of work, both solo and collaborative, stretches across multiple decades. She first drew widespread notice as a solo performer during the mid-1980s and went on to sustain her profile in later years through a blend of Danish- and English-language releases. Born on December 30, 1955, the singer entered the recording studio for the first time in 1973 with her self-titled debut album Sanne Salomonsen. That Danish-language project produced little commercial impact, so several years elapsed before she joined the ensemble Flair. The group issued two English-language albums that featured her contributions: Flair (1976) and Stop, Look & Listen (1977). She also performed with the Anne Linnet Band on a pair of Danish-language albums, Anne Linnet Band (1981) and Cha Cha Cha (1982). Her most prominent group affiliation, however, came with the Danish pop act Sneakers, where she participated on four successive releases: Sneakers (1980), Sui-Sui (1981), Rou'let (1982), and Katbeat (1984). While involved with these ensembles, she still managed to issue a second solo album, the English-language Precious Moments (1977). Genuine solo momentum arrived only in the mid-1980s, beginning with the Danish-language Sanne Salomonsen (1985). Its successor, Ingen Engel (1987), appeared simultaneously in an English edition titled No Angel. Later projects leaned primarily toward English, although occasional Danish efforts such as Sanne (1989) and bilingual sets such as Unplugged (1994) also surfaced. Salomonsen enjoyed particular success in 2005, when the chart-topping album The Album and its companion DVD The Show both resonated strongly with audiences. She returned to the top of the charts in 2009 with Unico, which contains the number two hit single “Taxa.”
