Biography
Santa Fe Klan serves as the performing identity of songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and rapper Ángel Jair Quesada Jasso. Blending raw trap and hip-hop textures with Mexican Regional folk traditions and Latin rhythms absorbed during childhood, his work carries an eclectic character. The moniker references both his neighborhood and the earlier collective he belonged to, which came together in 2013 and dissolved in 2016. After the split, five albums appeared in 2017: Por Costumbre, Seguimos Radicando, and the three-volume El Encio. Retaining the name to honor his roots, Quesada issued the regional hit solo album Bendecido in 2019 and joined Lefty Sm for Necesidad in 2020. On his newly established Cuatro Siete Tres Music imprint, he delivered the regional smash Santa Cumbia in 2021, while 2022’s charting Mundo featured appearances by Reik, Jacky Jack, and Tornillo.
Jasso entered the world in Guanajuato, Sinaloa, in 1999 and spent his formative years in Colonia Santa Fe. An early fascination with music prompted his parents to supply toy instruments, and exposure to rap, street life in the barrio, urban graffiti, and breakdancing shaped his outlook. At age twelve he began composing songs, later uploading them via laptop and internet to social platforms. His debut single arrived when he turned thirteen, after which he joined Alzada Corps through its Rap Trap division. That same year he helped assemble the hip-hop outfit Santa Fe Klan, whose members all hailed from his neighborhood; the group performed locally and regionally, organized events, and laid down tracks. Fragmentation began by 2016 and concluded with a full dissolution the following year. Alzada then released the complete catalog on Rap Trap via Por Costumbre, Seguimos Radicando, and the three-volume El Encio. Quesada adopted the name for his solo career to salute both the district and the formative experience gained inside the collective.
June 2019 brought Bendecido, his first solo project. The ten-track collection, accompanied by several videos and a short film directed by Jose Macias, registered strongly on regional radio and U.S. Latin stations. Follow-up singles “Tu y Yo” and “De la calle Somos” appeared next, joined later that year by the collaborations “Ni Ángel ni Demonio” with Neto Peña, Akapellah, and Gona; “Te iré a Buscar” with Nanpa Basico; and “Infiel” with Afaz Natural. He also supplied “Mi Guanajuato” to the original soundtrack of the award-winning film Huachicolero.
His videos drew notice for weaving Mexican Regional elements—cumbia sonidera, mariachi, bolero, corridos, and Colombian vallenato—into the mix. In 2020 he partnered with Lefty Sm on the duet album Necesidad and its hit single “Mi Decepcion,” attracting further producers and rappers who admired the fluid interplay and meticulously built beats and charts. That year also yielded the collaborative cumbia/norteño/rap single “Dobo Entondre” alongside Neto Peña and Yoss Bones, whose video surpassed half a billion views. Additional 2021 work included a feature on Run the Jewels’ “Ooh La La” with Mexican Institute of Sound. After departing Rap Trap, he launched Cuatro Siete Tres Music.
February 2021 saw Santa Cumbia, produced by Camilo Lara and Toy Selectah, reach the Mexican charts on the strength of “Vuelve” and “Soledad.” The set resonated throughout Latin America and the United States by emphasizing cumbia sonidera fused with hip-hop production and beats while highlighting Jasso’s accomplished accordion work. Under his own name he released no fewer than fifteen singles and joined numerous other tracks, among them the smash “Grandes Ligas” with Lupillo Rivera, Alemán, B-Real, and Snoop Dogg; Calibre 50’s “Cuiando el Territorio”; and “Dos Mundos” by Banda MS de Sergio Lizarraga. He received Mexico’s Premio Juventud for Best New Artist: Mexican Regional.
Activity continued unabated into 2022. January brought appearances on Gera MX’s “Problematico” and Chrystemc’s “Phiesta” with Macrodee. Late that month he issued “Callejera” alongside MC Davo. Two four-track EPs, Socios 1 and Socios 2, arrived with Gera MX at the end of February. April’s pre-release solo single “Mar y Tierra” marked his first entry on the Hot Latin Songs chart, followed by “Eres” in May and “Quedate” and “Luka” in June. July included the track “Soy” for Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Prologue EP and the non-album single “Yo Vengo de Abajo” with Los Dareyes De La Sierra and Locura Terminal. August brought the full-length Mundo, which debuted at number four on the Latin Pop Albums chart and number eleven on the Latin Rhythm Albums list. The twelve-song project featured the single “Llevame” with pop duo Reik, “Me Ire con Ella” with Tornillo, “Triste Realidad” with Jacky Jack and AXS Axel Santos, plus a fresh version of “Debo Entendre.”
