Emerging in Seville during 1993, the Spanish hip-hop duo SFDK began as a partnership between MC Zatu, born Saturnino Rey, and DJ Acción Sánchez, born Óscar Sánchez. Their original acronym came from “Straight from Da Kranny,” though the members later shifted to the fuller phrase “Siempre Fuertes de Konciencia,” rendered in English as “Always Strong of Conscience.” A string of self-released singles—“Sevilla Krannz,” “Tras Mil Vueltas,” and “Esto Va en Serio”—preceded their 1999 signing with the Zona Bruta label, which issued the duo’s first album, Siempre Fuertes. That project drew scant notice, a response repeated when Desde los Chiqueros arrived next. The third LP, 2001 Odisea en el Lodo, marked the commercial and critical breakthrough; after its chart success SFDK toured Spain and performed in Chile and the U.S. The duo launched their own namesake imprint ahead of the 2005 release, which entered the Spanish Top Five, and followed it two years later with Los Veteranos.
