Biography
Peter Krimmel handled piano, vocals, and guitar while Robby Garza covered guitar and bass, Bryan Garza took vocals and guitar, and James Krimmel played drums and bass, forming the first lineup of the flirtatious indie rock outfit Scissors for Lefty. Their sound blended Brit-pop with indie rock, complemented by a theatrical presence and ethereal lyrics, positioning them as a notable contributor to the post-punk resurgence that defined the early 2000s. Live bills alongside Grandaddy, the Coral, Mary Timony, Pedro the Lion, and Diamond Nights helped establish their presence. In 2005 the group independently issued its debut full-length, Bruno. Spring 2006 brought a showcase at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. Shortly afterward Stevie Garza, Bryan’s brother, joined on bass, and the expanded quartet recorded its Rough Trade debut, Underhanded Romance, released the following June.
