Biography
Pomegranates formed in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2006 as a pop-infused indie rock outfit founded by drummer Jacob Merritt, guitarist Isaac Karns, and vocalist/guitarist Joey Cook. Early work drew from the styles of Modest Mouse and Wolf Parade, allowing the musicians to refine their approach ahead of the June 2007 release of the Two Eyes EP. Bassist Josh Kufeldt entered the lineup the next year, paving the way for the May arrival of their first full-length effort, Everything Is Alive. Live appearances alongside Javelins, Islands, and Headlights preceded a move to northern Kentucky, where the band tracked its follow-up before Aloha’s TJ Lipple mixed and mastered the sessions in Arlington, Virginia. The finished product, conceptual album Everybody, Come Outside!, surfaced on Lujo Records in April 2009 and channeled the spirit of Talking Heads alongside French Kicks.
