Shawn Stockman

Since his entry into Boyz II Men at the time of the quartet’s 1991 debut, Shawn Stockman has also written and produced for fellow artists while issuing occasional solo recordings, among them the 2018 album Shawn. He first sang publicly as a child with the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale, then met his future group mates Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, and Michael McCary at the Philadelphia High School for Creative & Performing Arts. Once the four singers had established themselves as a multi-platinum, chart-topping ensemble, Stockman made his initial solo appearance on the Mr. Holland’s Opus soundtrack with the track “Visions of Sunset.” Issued commercially, the ballad climbed to number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1996, at the same moment Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men held the summit with “One Sweet Day.” He later placed original songs on the soundtracks for Down in the Delta, Disappearing Acts, and Kingdom Come, yet continued to treat Boyz II Men as his central focus even while collaborating with Brownstone, DJ Jazzy Jeff, his cousin Anthony David, and Foo Fighters, in addition to serving for several seasons as a judge on the NBC series The Sing-Off. Stockman’s first full-length solo project, Shawn, arrived in 2018, introduced by the single “Feelin Lil Som’n,” which he co-wrote with longtime Boyz II Men associate Tim Kelley.
