She Makes War

London-based She Makes War serves as the performing alias for English D.I.Y. gloom-pop singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Laura Kidd, whose work draws from Echo & the Bunnymen, the Breeders, My Brightest Diamond, Cat Power, Suede, and Bikini Kill. Her debut release under that name, the 2010 album Disarm, presented listeners with an arresting fusion of pastoral dream pop and goth-inflected modern rock. Two years afterward came the atmospheric and driving Little Battles, while 2015 saw Kidd write and perform in her autobiographical one-woman production Sh*t Girlfriend, mixing humorous prose with melancholy music. Direction of Travel, her third studio album, followed in 2016 and included contributions from Tanya Donelly and Mark Chadwick.
