Biography
Originating in Vienna, Austria, during 2004, the pop/rock outfit SheSays assembled around singer/guitarist Gudrun Liemberger, guitarist Andy Liu, bassist Valentin Rosegger, and drummer Rainer Schumich, the latter having stepped in for founding member Cathi Priemer. Although Austrian by origin, the quartet performs exclusively in English and draws from American emo traditions. Their profile surged after claiming victory on the televised band contest Soundcheck Spezial, which secured a contract with Capital Records. The self-titled debut SheSays reached the summit of the Austrian album chart in 2006 yet registered no impact elsewhere in Europe, propelled chiefly by the number-two lead single “Rosegardens” while the follow-up tracks “She Says” and “Mountainside” attracted comparatively modest notice. Issued the next year, the sophomore album Want It climbed no higher than number 18 domestically and produced only moderate successes with “Open Your Eyes” and “Save Me.”
