Formed in Southampton in 2004, the Reading-based English outfit SixNationState spent the next several years sharpening their live act through more than 150 shows and multiple festival appearances on both sides of the Atlantic, all aimed at landing a recording contract. Independent imprint Worst Case Scenario placed the band on a split single that featured their track “Keep Dancing,” which quickly attracted airplay from Radio 1 and Xfm. The same song helped generate attention in Germany and Austria, prompting tours in both countries, while the group also earned an enthusiastic response at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas. The accumulated momentum drew interest from the stylish UK label Jeepster, which issued the band’s first single for the imprint, “Fire!,” in late 2006. That release triggered an extensive nationwide tour and set the stage for the September 2007 arrival of their self-titled album SixNationState, introduced beforehand by the single “We Could Be Happy.”
