Feminist indie trio Skinny Girl Diet emerged from the British indie underground during the mid-2010s by fusing raw, politically conscious punk with fuzzed-out riot grrrl and grunge elements. After issuing a run of increasingly prominent D.I.Y. EPs, the group put out its first full-length, Heavy Flow, on its own imprint in 2016 and followed with Ideal Woman two years later.

Sisters Delilah (vocals/guitar) and Ursula Holliday (drums) first performed as a duo before recruiting their cousin Amelia Cutler on bass while still in their early teens. Their initial live appearance came opening for Slits guitarist Viv Albertine, after which they steadily attracted attention through their sound, visual style, and feminist politics. The trio’s recorded debut arrived via a 2013 split EP alongside the like-minded act Ethical Debating Society. Their own Girl Gang State of Mind EP appeared the next year, followed by a contribution to Raft Records’ collaborative EP1. Their 2015 Reclaim Your Life EP paved the way for the independently released debut album Heavy Flow in 2016. Two years afterward, Ideal Woman broadened the band’s fuzzed-out, grungy approach and received a self-released U.K. edition in late 2018 plus a January 2019 American release through HHBTM.
