Biography
Drawing from British and American rock outfits alongside Latin rock influences, the Manchester-based grunge/punk trio Calva Louise deliver a loud, brash sound without sacrificing memorable hooks. The band came together in 2017 after Venezuelan vocalist Jess Allanic, bassist Alizon Taho, and drummer Ben Parker each relocated from separate parts of the globe to London. Following extensive rehearsals at the studios of the landmark venue The Roundhouse and numerous local performances, they put out two independent EPs and then a pair of singles via the American label FRKST. Those recordings drew the interest of Modern Sky Records, which issued the debut album Rhinoceros in February 2019. The single “Belicoso” appeared that August, preceding the EP Interlude for the Borderline Unsettled. In 2020 the group released the singles “Trial” and “Nine Lives,” the latter a collaboration with Blackpool-based rockers Strange Bones. Calva Louise recruited Strange Bones frontman Bobby Bentham to produce their second full-length effort, the sci-fi and graphic novel-inspired concept album Euphoric, which arrived in 2021.
