Biography
Led by Ophelia Booth's straightforward vocal style on vocals and guitar, BLOXX fuse melodic indie rock with grunge edges and the sleeker strains of '90s alternative rock. The U.K. outfit launched their recording career in 2016 via the lighthearted single "Your Boyfriend."
The band originated in Uxbridge, West London, that same year when Booth, guitarist Taz Sidhu, and drummer Mozwin Norohna came together while completing BTECs in music performance. Booth later encountered bassist Paul Raubišķis at work and invited him to join. The four-piece issued their debut track "Your Boyfriend" (first titled "Ur Boyfriend") in September 2016. Early the following year they joined the Chess Club roster, which put out the next single "You" in April.
During the subsequent two years the group shared stages with Sundara Karma, the Wombats, and INHEAVEN while steadily expanding a strong run of singles. By the close of the decade BLOXX had absorbed elements stretching from glossy pop/rock to Paramore-styled pop-punk, a progression that led to their debut EP, Headspace, in 2019. Norohna left the lineup in December 2019, after which Joe Kinton came aboard as drummer for live work extending into 2020 and afterward. The remaining trio then released their initial singles—"Coming Up Short," "Lie Out Loud," and "Thinking About Yourself"—all from 2020, before unveiling their first full-length, Lie Out Loud. Issued that August on Chess Club, the record comprises eleven catchy anthems.
