Slimm Calhoun

Originating in College Park, Georgia, rapper Slimm Calhoun first absorbed the pioneering hip-hop of Run-D.M.C., Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Flash. In 1994 he connected with Outkast and the Dungeon Family crew, who mentored him closely thereafter. By the late '90s he had signed to Outkast's Aquemini imprint, distributed through Elektra. His Aquemini debut, The Skinny, was slated for mid-2000 yet faced repeated delays that ultimately moved the release to April 2001. Throughout the postponements he appeared on Outkast's Stankonia, performing on the track "Gangsta Shit," and joined the Stank Love tour, delivering a nightly medley of three songs from The Skinny.
