Biography
Seamus Kenney on vocals and accordion joined forces with Mark Daumen on tuba and vocals, Matthew Vooris on drums, and Matthew Kenney on trumpet to shape the singular sound of SNMNMNM. The quartet first assembled in 1997 during their studies at the Eastman School of Music in upstate New York, where the Kenney brothers, Daumen, and Vooris completed music degrees and showcased their singular comic sensibility at a neighborhood open-mike night. Their distinctive blend of brass and electronics prompted a home-recorded self-titled debut, later referred to as “the Red Album.” After touring behind that first release, the band established a base in Los Angeles. Momentum in the indie rock circuit led to the 2002 appearance of the Asbestos Weekend EP on Skunk Ape. One year later International Cork signed the group, resulting in Power Pack Horse Crunch, whose title commemorates an antique feed bag discovered on the floor of Johnny Cash’s barn by the father of producer Loney John Hutchins.
