Recognized foremost for supplying the nasal, staccato delivery that defined the 1990s Latino hemp-hop outfit Funkdoobiest, Puerto Rican MC Son Doobie—born Jason Vasquez—has forged a path apart from that collective as a rapper, radio personality, and adult film performer. Though Snoop Dogg is another rap figure who entered the adult industry, Son Doobie was probably the first, a detail destined to populate hip-hop trivia indefinitely. Musically he has remained engaged through the Latino rap supergroup Serial Rhyme Killers, collaborating with Mellow Man Ace and Cypress Hill’s B-Real. He has likewise participated in the underground Battle Axe crew alongside Swollen Members, Abstract Rude, and Buc Fifty. Son Doobie appeared on Swollen Members’ Bad Dreams album in 2001; after issuing several singles he unveiled his eagerly awaited debut, Funk Superhero, in 2003.
