Biography
Dominican vocalist Sonia Silvestre, born Sonia Margarita Silvestre Ortíz, stepped onto a stage for the first time in May 1970 while enrolled at a nearby university training to become an elementary school teacher. Appearances at assorted local spots across her native country prompted composer Leonor Porchella De Brea to offer her a slot at a major festival, where she performed the number "Dónde Podre Gritarte Que Te Quiero," later included on her debut album Esta Es Sonia (Introducing Sonia).
