Biography
Born Luis Rafael Valdez Vargas, the self-starting and industrious Dominican singer and guitarist Luis Vargas first entered popular music after crossing paths with a neighborhood musician who imparted guitar instruction. Upon choosing an independent path, he oversaw every aspect of his debut single’s creation before taking on its promotion and distribution single-handedly. Backing from regional figures Pedro Pimentel, Artemio Sánchez, Antonio Carrasco, and Anthony Santos soon secured rotation on nearby stations. Following a release on an independent imprint, Sony International extended a contract that yielded the 1997 album Volvio el Dolor.
