Biography
Antony Santos, the Dominican artist widely recognized as el Mayimbe and one of the genre’s top sellers, entered tropical music after sharpening his vocal technique and acquiring guitar proficiency. He assembled an initial ensemble for area gigs and entered the market in 1992 through Plátano Records with the album La Chupadera. La Batalla arrived the following year. Santos achieved his decisive breakthrough in 1994 by releasing the trio of albums Corazón Bonito, Mayimbe, and Cójelo Ahi.
