Yoskar Sarante

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1970, bachata vocalist Yoskar Sarante grew up immersed in music, often performing on the streets to earn money while his father provided guitar accompaniment. At a young age he joined multiple groups and financed his own music studies through construction work. By the early 1990s he launched a prolific solo career, issuing his first album, El Prabu—a title drawn from one of his aliases—in 1994. From that point he maintained a steady pace of roughly one new release every two years and contributed tracks to numerous compilations over the following two decades. His romantic approach to songwriting eventually earned widespread international recognition, establishing him, after years of persistent effort, among the foremost bachata singers of his era.
