Originating from the Dominican Republic, tropical singer and songwriter Daniel Santacruz authored the chart-topping track "Perdidos" for Monchy & Alexandra in 2004, only a short time after initiating his own solo recording path in 2003. Daniel Cruz Sánchez came into the world on November 23, 1976, in New Jersey, the son of a Cuban father and a Dominican mother, and spent his formative years in the Dominican Republic. Performing under the simplified name Daniel, he issued his first full-length solo album, Por un Beso, in 2003; the release drew strong critical notice and secured him a Premios Lo Nuestro nod for Best New Artist of the Year. One year afterward, the Dominican superstars Monchy & Alexandra featured his composition "Perdidos" on their 2004 album Hasta el Fin, where it ascended to number one on the Billboard Latin Tropical Airplay chart, landed at number three on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart, and crossed over onto The Billboard Hot 100. Building on that momentum, Monchy & Alexandra converted another Santacruz song, "No Es una Novela," into a 2006 success, while the Mexican pop band Reik did the same with "Me Duele Amarte" the same year. A major-label agreement with Sony BMG soon followed, leading to his label debut Radio Rompecorazones in 2008, whose lead single "Adónde Va el Amor?" preceded the full project.
