Henry Santos first gained prominence as a vocalist and songwriter during his years with the bachata supergroup Aventura, though the Dominican New Yorker launched his solo recording career with a debut album in 2011. He entered the world as Henry Santos Jeter on December 15, 1979, in Moca, Dominican Republic, before relocating with his family to the Bronx upon turning 14. Bachata superstar Romeo Santos is his cousin, and together they established Aventura in 1994. The ensemble, which initially performed under the name Los Tinellers, issued its first full-length project, Trampa de Amor, in 1995. International recognition arrived via the breakout single “Obsesión,” featured on the third album We Broke the Rules (2002). Stateside momentum grew further with “Ella y Yo,” a duet alongside reggaetoñero Don Omar that appeared on the fifth studio album God’s Project (2005) and became the opening entry in a streak of ten consecutive Top Ten placements for Aventura on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. Following the release of nine albums—six studio recordings and three live sets—the group declared its separation in 2011. Romeo and Henry Santos each stepped forward with solo projects that same year, Formula, Vol. 1 and Introducing Henry Santos. Despite Romeo’s chart-topping solo arrival, Henry’s debut still registered substantial impact, particularly on tropical charts, where it yielded the hit singles “Poquito a Poquito” and “Por Nada.”
