Hailing from Ängelholm, a modest Swedish town, the post-hardcore/emo band Sounds Like Violence drew inspiration from early-'90s indie rock acts, expressing particular admiration for the Afghan Whigs, the Posies, and Kyuss. Rather than settling in Stockholm for wider prospects, the group maintained their local base while maximizing exposure through relentless touring. The lineup of vocalist/guitarist Andreas Söderlund, guitarist Philip Hall, bassist/vocalist Daniel Teodorsson, and drummer Daniel Petersson—several of whom had also performed in Niccokick, the indie rock project Söderlund launched in 2001—issued the EP The Pistol via U.S.-based Deep Elm in April 2004. Reviewers lauded the recording, and a three-way summer split shared with Settlefish and Desert City Soundtrack earned comparable acclaim. In February 2007 the band delivered its first full-length album, With Blood on My Hands, via Deep Elm for North America and Burning Heart for Europe, the U.K., and Japan.
