Biography
In 1981, former Foreigner members Al Greenwood, born in New York, USA, and handling keyboards, joined forces with Edward Gagliardi, born on 13 February 1952 in New York, USA, on bass to establish the American pomp-rock quintet Spys. John Blanco took on vocals, John Digaudio handled guitar, and Billy Milne sat behind the drums. The group secured a contract with EMI Records in 1982. Their debut arrived as a self-titled album produced by Neil Kernon, recognized for prior work with Dokken and Michael Bolton, and it highlighted assertive guitar lines set against intricate, keyboard-led textures. Behind Enemy Lines marked a turn toward excess, as the band enlisted a Russian male voice choir on multiple tracks. That release failed to connect with listeners, and Spys collapsed in 1983 amid escalating legal and contractual disputes. Greenwood later collaborated with Joe Lynn Turner before moving on to N.Y.C.
