Biography
Stanton Warriors consist of two former studio engineers who evolved into producers and remixers, injecting the British garage scene with dynamic tracks that crossed multiple genres along with their high-energy DJ sets. Dominic Butler and Mark Yardley first crossed paths at the influential garage imprint Tuff Jam, where Butler handled A&R duties and Yardley worked in the studio. Both hailed from the southwest—Butler from Bristol, Yardley from greater Devon—and grew weary of lending their talents to other acts, prompting them to combine efforts on the singles “What You Gonna Do” and “Determined,” which merged the fluidity of 2-step with the inventive edge of nu-breaks. The pair subsequently concentrated on remix commissions, receiving requests from Basement Jaxx, Missy Elliott, DJ Skribble, Azzido da Bass, and Artful Dodger before scoring their own success with the single “Da Virus.” Early in 2001 they signed with XL Recordings and issued their debut album, The Stanton Sessions, before the year ended. Follow-up editions of The Stanton Sessions arrived in 2006 and 2008, showcasing joint tracks with Twista, Big Daddy Kane, and the Beatnuts together with Stanton Warriors’ own remixes of Coburn and Yo Majesty plus additional tracks they especially favored. The duo also compiled the 30th installment of the Fabriclive mix series.
