Biography
Nashville rapper Starlito built a career on independent hustle and relentless output after arriving in the early 2000s. His path soon intersected with major Southern rap figures of the era, bringing broader attention through a steady stream of sharp, detailed releases. The raw edge of his lyricism and vivid accounts of street life sharpened across countless mixtapes before reaching greater clarity on full-length projects such as the 2023 album Love Drug.
Jermaine Shute, who first recorded under the name All Star Cashville Prince, launched his solo career in 2003 with a series of self-released mixtapes that preceded his studio debut, Prince of the Ville, in 2005. That same year he joined Cash Money and scored a notable single, “Grey Goose,” featuring Young Jeezy and Yo Gotti. Another track, “Crazy,” appeared in 2007 with Lil Wayne, and by 2009 he performed simply as All Star while preparing the album Cash Money Laundering. The project remained unreleased, and he parted ways with the label in 2010. After leaving Cash Money, he adopted the name Starlito and accelerated his release schedule dramatically. In addition to numerous mixtapes, he issued studio albums through his own Grind Hard imprint, beginning with Cold Turkey, the first of several projects that appeared on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. He also teamed with Memphis rapper Don Trip for the Step Brothers series, whose third installment arrived in 2017. Later efforts included the 2022 mixtape Cheap Phones & Turkey Bags, a collaboration with Troy Money, and the 2023 studio album Love Drug, which included appearances from NoCap, Robin Raynelle, and Charleston White.
