Biography
Formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, the Canadian hard rock outfit State of Shock first drew notice after winning a regional rock competition. Four years later the group was already in contention for the country’s top music prize. Simon Clow on guitar and vocals, Cameron Melnyk on vocals, John Philippon on drums, Alison Toews on bass, and Jesse Wainwright on guitar issued their debut album, Guilty by Association, in 2004, yet it was the next record that delivered the breakthrough they wanted. Life, Love & Lies, released in 2007, earned both strong sales and favorable reviews, powered by the single “Money Honey” that reached the Top Ten on several charts. The summer that followed found the band on the road with Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd. In 2008 State of Shock received a nomination for Best New Group of the Year at the Juno Awards.
