Formed in Austria in 1997, Steirerbluat is a schlager band whose albums began achieving regular domestic chart placement after the turn of the century. Christian Hütter (vocals, guitar), Gebhart "Gebi" Seidl (harmonica, keyboards, backing vocals), Michael Eibinger (bass, backing vocals), Michael Hackl (guitar, backing vocals), and Stefan "Stevie" Kurzmann (drums) make up the group. Their first release, Volle Pulle (1997), led to a runner-up result at the 1998 Grand Prix der Volksmusik for the song "I Mag die Sonn." The follow-ups I Will Leb'n (1999) and Es Geht Nie Vorbei (2000) preceded the fourth album I Brauch Di (2001), which entered the Austrian albums chart. Later releases that also charted domestically include Alles, Was I Dir Biet'n Kann (2003), Nicht Mal Berühr'n (2004), Vertrau Mir (2005), and Ich Will Dich (2008). In 2008 DJ Ötzi's cover of "I Will Leb'n" reached the Top Ten in both Austria and Germany.
