An Indonesian-American vocalist known for her gentle and tuneful approach to pop music, Stephanie Poetri first appeared on a track alongside the brother-sister act Goodbye Felicia during her teenage years in the middle of the 2010s, prior to launching her individual career in 2019. Her follow-up release, the love-themed slow song "I Love You 3000," reached Top Five status in Indonesia. Poetri issued her initial extended play in the form of 2021's AM:PM, with oh to be in love arriving twelve months afterward.

Born Stephanie Poetri Dougharty in Jakarta in 2000, she is the offspring of Indonesian pop star Titi DJ and American Andrew Hollis Dougharty. Although vocalizing had been a source of pleasure since her early years, her pursuit of music professionally only took hold once she began composing verses while attending secondary school. In the final months of 2015, at the age of fifteen, her voice featured on Goodbye Felicia's rendition of "Bimbang," originally performed by their musician parents Melly Goeslaw and Anto Hoed.

Poetri entered the solo realm under the name Stephanie Poetri via the bilingual Bahasa Indonesia and English track "Appreciate" in April 2019. The Indonesian number two hit "I Love You 3000" followed in June 2019 on 12TONE/88Rising. Additional releases such as "Touch" and "Straight To You" emerged the following year, while 2021 saw the arrival of her debut EP AM:PM. Anchored by the singles "Selfish" and "How We Used To," the project adopted a subdued and occasionally ethereal tone. Her sophomore EP, Oh To Be In Love, was released the following year and featured a collaboration with American pop artist JVKE on "Bad Haircut."
