Biography
Known for crafting elegant and polished R&B centered on daily experiences and personal connections, Su Charles performs and composes under the name SuCh. Although her birthplace is Boston, her upbringing took place on Long Island, where, as the offspring of a minister, she initiated her vocal journey in a children's choir at a young age. During her high school years, selection for the Grammy High School Jazz Ensemble provided encouragement, yet her focus remained on non-musical paths, culminating in degrees in exercise science and nursing. The experience of tending to 2010 Haiti earthquake survivors prompted reflection on life's brevity, leading Charles to recommence her musical ambitions through appearances on X Factor and American Idol while launching her recording endeavors as SuCh. Her debut full-length project, Stretch Marks, arrived in May 2012, propelled by the lively and emotionally releasing track "Robbed." September 2014 saw the arrival of her improved follow-up, Trial and Error, which featured "Sugar Maple" prominently.
