Biography
The Sunshiners, a pan-cultural reggae collective, brought back together saxophonist Philippe "Feal" Lerouzic and drummer Gaël "Chewinoo" Chosson, whose earlier work together occurred within the French ensemble Mister Gang, a group sharing similar sensibilities. It was during a tour halt in 2001 on Vanuatu, an island in the South Pacific, that Lerouzic and Chosson made the acquaintance of local vocalists Gero Iaviniau, John Kapala, Jake Moses, and Ben Siro. Following the dissolution of Mister Gang shortly thereafter, the pair made their way back to Vanuatu to link up once more with these newfound acquaintances, leading to the establishment of the Sunshiners as an endeavor focused on reworking iconic British pop tracks—from David Bowie through the Human League and on to U2—in a reggae style. Sony BMG released the group's eponymous first album in 2006.
