Biography
Telepathe evolved across a handful of releases from improvisational drones into experimental, danceable pop as the core project of Busy Gangnes and Melissa Livaudais alongside shifting supporting musicians. Songwriter, percussionist, and dancer Gangnes, an alumna of Wikkid, joined forces with Katie Eastburn of Young People for the Starter Set dance project and also works as a yoga instructor, while multi-instrumentalist Livaudais, another Wikkid veteran, had played in First Nation before that group became Rings upon her exit to concentrate on Telepathe. The band originated in 2004 alongside Shahin Motia of Ex Models, though Allie Alvarado had joined the lineup by the appearance of 2006's Farewell Forest EP, an effort that spotlighted the group's more expansive, chaotic dimension. The 2007 Sinister Militia single steered Telepathe toward more dance-oriented rhythms via remixes from Tyler Pope of !!! and the Soft Pink Truth. Ryan Lucero of Mirror Mirror then entered as the third core member, after which the trio cut its debut full-length with producer Dave Sitek; the outcome, Dance Mother, surfaced in 2009.
