Terry McDermott, a vocalist celebrated for his passionate delivery and resonant tone, secured second place during the third season of NBC’s The Voice. Originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, he first attracted widespread notice as frontman of the rock group Driveblind. The band, launched in 2001, shifted its base to Los Angeles and landed a contract with Geffen Records, which issued their self-titled debut album in 2006. Following Driveblind’s dissolution in 2008, McDermott relocated to New Orleans alongside his wife and son. In 2009 he assembled Lotus Crush, drawing fellow members from Candlebox, MIGGS, and Second Coming. Two years afterward the group issued the album Half-Light Morning. McDermott tried out for and joined the 2012 edition of NBC’s reality singing contest The Voice. On the program he performed under Blake Shelton’s guidance and became the first male runner-up in the show’s history, finishing behind singer Cassadee Pope. After that second-place result, The Voice: The Complete Season 3 Collection—a set compiling his performances—was released.
