Originating from Los Angeles, the musician Thavius Beck earned acclaim as a producer whose influence extended past his individual recordings, launching his own series of musical collages during the middle portion of the 2000s. His rich soundscapes, positioned audibly in the territory occupied by DJ Shadow alongside Orbital, fuse elements of acid jazz with hip-hop and techno plus additional genres, demonstrating skill in crafting subdued but captivating melodies. Developing expertise at the mixing console through participation in the hip-hop group Global Phlowtations during the final years of the 1990s, he issued several projects under the Adlib moniker before signing to Mush Records and debuting independently with Decomposition in 2004. The 2006 release Thru elevated his profile, highlighted by the slo-mo video for "To Make Manifest" appearing on the Suicide Girls: The First Tour DVD. He followed with Dialogue on Big Dada in 2009. Three years afterward came the nine-track mixtape Symphony of the Spheres together with the more expansive The Most Beautiful Ugly LP, both issued via Plug Research. Beck returned in 2017 with Technol O.G. on Hit+Run, which included the single "Spectacular Vernacular."
