Biography
The New York City collective the Ballet specializes in catchy indie pop numbers of Brill Building duration. These tracks fuse the orchestral and detached folk-pop leanings of groups such as the Hidden Cameras and Belle and Sebastian with the witty, electronic-pop luster typical of Stephin Merritt productions on Magnetic Fields, Gothic Archies, Future Bible Heroes, and the 6ths. The group issued its first album, Mattachine, in 2006. Bear Life followed in 2009, and 2013 brought I Blame Society, the band’s initial outing on British indie Fortuna Pop.
