Biography
The Beauty Room centers on Kirk Degiorgio, who handles production along with keyboards and vocals, alongside Jinadu, responsible for lead vocals and keyboards. Although the project issued its first recording in the form of a subdued 10" single on New Religion at the end of 2005, Degiorgio and Jinadu had already worked together four years earlier when the vocalist contributed to the producer's 21st Century Soul album. For Degiorgio, long recognized as an early advocate of Detroit techno and as a groundbreaking, highly active creator of his own material, the Beauty Room marked a decisive departure after more than fifteen years behind the boards, reflecting a clear embrace of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Joni Mitchell, Terry Callier, Jon Lucien, and Steely Dan. Jinadu, noted for a singular vocal style, had previously released two solo singles on Bitches Brew and supplied guest appearances on recordings by Jimpster, Zoltar, Si Begg, and Tidal. Supported by several collaborators, among them guitarist Ian O'Brien, a longtime associate of Degiorgio, keyboardist Tom O'Grady, drummer Chris Whitten, and the Heritage Orchestra, the pair assembled their self-titled album, which appeared on Peacefrog in September 2006 and incorporated an arrangement by Eumir Deodato, whose productions for the CTI label in particular left a strong impression on Degiorgio.
