Gerald Crabb earned the Gospel Music Association's songwriter of the year honor across four straight years while guiding the Crabb Family—his wife Kathy and six of their seven children—into the top tier of American gospel music. The ensemble formed in 1995 and went on to claim eight number one gospel hits: "The Reason That I'm Standing," "That's No Mountain," "Please Forgive Me," "Through the Fire," "Trail of Tears," "Brothers Forever," "The Lamb, the Lion and the King," and "Jesus in a Song." The Southern Gospel Music Association recognized the Crabb Family as best mixed group of 2000.

Beyond their frequent appearances on the Trinity Broadcasting Network program Praise the Lord, the group staged numerous concerts that merged their repertoire with multi-media displays of photographs and graphics. Music served as the foundation for a profitable enterprise that now encompasses the Family Music Group, Crabb House Studios, and Crabb Tree Boutique.

Road manager Kathy Crabb supports her children's singing from the keyboards and organ. Although middle daughter Kelly Crabb Bowling takes the majority of lead vocal duties, her siblings' abilities have drawn comparable attention. Oldest son Jason received the favorite young artist designation at the Singing News Fans Awards in 2000. Oldest daughter Krystal, the sole family member who does not tour or record with the group, manages the band's office. Kelly's husband, Mike Bowling, joined the Crabb Family on the road as pianist.

In 2006 the Crabb Family placed the act on hiatus so each member could follow an independent path. They reconvened in 2011 for a tour and soon issued the 2012 studio album Together Again. Lead singer Jason Crabb produced the project, which included the single "If There Ever Was a Time."
