Hailing from Miami, Florida, the Crumbs coalesced around their shared passion for the Ramones, 1950s rock, and heavy consumption of coffee and alcohol. Raf Classic supplied guitar and vocals, Johnny B handled guitar, Emil 4 1/2 played bass, and Chuck Loose—formerly the frontman of Chickenhead—sat behind the drums. The Dead Boys, the Pagans, Crime, the Stooges, the MC5, and additional pre-1977 punk outfits further shaped the quartet’s approach. Recess Records issued the group’s opening EP, I Fell in Love With an Alien Girl and I Think I'm Goin' to Mars With Her, in 1995; Far Out Records followed later that year with the 10-inch Get All Tangled Up. After the band signed to Lookout Records, the Shakespeare EP appeared in 1996 and the self-titled album arrived in 1997. Chuck Loose exited in 1997 to concentrate on the Drug Czars, and Grim, previously of fellow Miami punk band the Basicks, stepped in on drums. Lookout Records released the Crumbs’ sophomore album, Low and Behold, in 1998.
