Biography
Originating in Lulea, a town situated in northern Sweden, Duskfall came together in 1999 when guitarists Mikael Sandorf (ex-Gates of Ishtar) and Glenn Svensson established the project on an informal basis. Sandorf and Svensson soon shifted their full attention to the band, cycling through a wide array of players until they locked in a permanent configuration with vocalist Kai Jaakkola, bassist Kaj Molin, and drummer Oskar Karlsson during 2001. The resulting quintet issued its first full-length, Frailty, via Greece’s Black Lotus Records in 2002; Magnus Olsson supplied the lead guitar parts on this vicious yet melodic death metal outing that recalled the work of Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. Needing a permanent soloist, the group recruited shredder Joachim Lindbäck to take Svensson’s place ahead of tracking the follow-up album Source in 2003.
