Biography
Hailing from Stavanger, Norway, The Getaway People surfaced as a post-alternative ensemble whose sound echoes Beck by fusing surf, blues, rock, and soul while threading those styles through current hip-hop currents and a lo-fi aesthetic. The outfit came together in 1994 and took its name from a British advertisement campaign. Its self-titled debut reached American listeners in spring 1998 on Tangerine, a Columbia imprint. Two years afterward the group issued Turnpike Diaries.
