The Heavy Heavy craft a sound steeped in retro echoes, pairing the Rolling Stones' cocksure attitude with the sun-drenched California psych-rock and folk-pop associated with the Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, and the Mamas & the Papas. Earworm singles first drew listeners in, paving the way for the 2022 debut EP Life and Life Only and the full-length One of a Kind that followed in 2024.

Will Turner and Georgie Fuller launched the project in 2019 within the modest West Midlands town of Malvern. Fuller, an actress and gifted vocalist who had already taken the stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival during her teenage years, joined forces with Turner, a multi-instrumentalist whose early musical experiences unfolded in various psychedelic and surf-rock outfits. Their mutual admiration for the Band, Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac, Delaney & Bonnie, and Fleet Foxes guided them to a London flat where the material for Life and Life Only took shape. An initial version of the EP surfaced in 2020 and attracted the interest of U.S. label ATO Records, which promptly signed the emerging act.

The ATO edition, featuring the streaming successes “Go Down River” and “Miles and Miles,” appeared in 2022 and received an expanded release the next year. Functioning as a five-piece on stage, the Heavy Heavy took their sound to festivals including Bonnaroo, Boston Calling, and the Newport Folk Festival while also performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and CBS Saturday Morning. These shows, together with the early-2024 single “Happiness,” built anticipation for the band’s first album. One of a Kind, produced, engineered, and mixed by Turner, reached stores via ATO in September of that year.
