Once Platypus, the prog rock supergroup, disbanded in 2000, three of its participants launched the power trio the Jelly Jam to sustain a comparable strain of progressive, cinematic rock. Vocalist and guitarist Ty Tabor of King's X joined forces with bassist John Myung from Dream Theater and drummer Rod Morgenstein, whose background spans Dixie Dregs and Winger. The new ensemble aligned with Inside Out Music and issued its self-titled debut album in 2002. A second release, Jelly Jam 2, followed in 2004, after which the band largely withdrew from view for the balance of the decade while its members concentrated on their principal commitments. The Jelly Jam resurfaced in 2011 to deliver Shall We Descend and returned once more in 2016 with the concept album Profit.
