Biography
The Madden Brothers originated in 2011 as an auxiliary endeavor for Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte, giving the pair latitude to explore sonic avenues outside the boundaries of their longstanding pop-punk outfit. That same year the duo distributed a no-cost mixtape called Before, Volume 1, which included guest spots by the Cool Kids, Wiz Khalifa, Machine Gun Kelly, and Casey Veggies. Work with producer Pharrell Williams began in 2012 and signaled the first outlines of a complete studio album, yet those plans ultimately dissolved. The brothers kept developing new material regardless and delivered the bright pop single “We Are Done” in 2014. Their first full-length effort, Greetings from California, produced by Eric Valentine and Joe Chiccarelli, appeared later the same year.
