Among hip-hop producers, Mike Ladd distinguishes himself through an ambitious drive to assemble crews and endeavors that match his conceptual aims and unconventional wit. He staged a fabricated 2001 clash between underground and mainstream factions, casting the Majesticons as the commercial contingent and the likewise invented Infesticons as the valiant underground protagonists. The Infesticons release appeared first and achieved cult status inside the New York hip-hop circuit, leading Ladd to organize a reply from the rival unit. The Majesticons favor a style they label “post-jiggy,” with lyrics focused on corporate positions, enormous fortunes, advanced degrees, and advantaged upbringings. The line separating fact from invention stays unclear, though the lineup—Sir Long, Teisha, Cheeta, and Ladd’s alter ego Jay Wakowitz—evidently mocks the showy “bling bling” posture that gripped hip-hop after the century’s turn. Their lone album, Beauty Party, surfaced on Big Dada in the opening weeks of 2003.
