The Mekanix

Known throughout the Bay Area hip-hop scene as the Mekanix, production duo Tweed "Tha Great" and Dotrix 4000 quickly became go-to collaborators for many of the region’s leading artists. They launched their partnership in 2005 and soon contributed beats to projects by J. Stalin, Shady Nate, and Yukmouth. Their ongoing association with Philthy Rich yielded multiple tracks on the rapper’s 2012 release Kill Zone, and two years later the pair crafted the cut “I’m Trippin’” for legendary MC Too $hort. In 2016 the Mekanix delivered their own album Under the Hood, which showcased appearances by E-40, Too $hort, Mistah F.A.B., and additional guests. They followed with the 2018 LP Restoration, featuring joint efforts alongside J. Stalin, Richie Rich, Lil Blood, and others. Just twelve months afterward, the duo issued Donuts, which reunited several artists from Restoration while adding Clyde Carson and Magnolia Chop to the lineup.
